In certain family court proceedings in Western Australia, such as applications for parenting orders, there is a requirement that parties first genuinely attempt to resolve their differences and obtain a Certificate from an accredited family dispute resolution practitioner, before applying for parenting orders.
In limited circumstances, it may be possible to be be exempted from this requirement. For example if there was a risk of child abuse or family violence.
The certificate from an accredited family dispute resolution practitioner will contain a statement that informs the Family Court of Western Australia as to the following:
Attendance by parties
Whether all parties attended or did not attend the meeting with the dispute resolution practitioner
If parties attended meeting with dispute resolution practitioner
